Insider’s Guide: The Morocco Travel Experience

Insider’s Guide: The Morocco Travel Experience

For years I have considered French architecture to be the finest in the world. Then I visited Italy and was blown away by the country's pristine renaissance buildings. Similarly, I had been convinced that France had the most diverse landscape any traveler could dream of experiencing. Then I discovered Morocco.
Travel in Morocco and you can start your morning among the magnificent burnt-orange dunes of this beautiful kingdom. At midday, discover the High Atlas plateau surrounded by snowcapped mountains. Spend a relaxing and indulgent afternoon at the luxurious Palmaraie Hotel & Resort Marrakech. Travel toward the Atlantic on roads lined with olive trees as you’re immersed in the fragrance of almond tree blossoms. And, as you recap the day’s adventures, enjoy royal Moroccan tea while the sun dips below the coast.
There cultural diversity in this North African region is also quite incredible. Since Morocco was once a French protectorat, the people speak Arabic, Berbère, as well as French. The region is a migratory haven – for birds as well as people from all over the world. Morocco’s warm winter months provide the perfect escape as the snow begins to fall over Europe and North America and the region is extremely welcoming to westerners. In fact, many consider Morocco as the safest North African country to visit. This combination of indigenous locals and international travelers delivers an unforgettable opportunity that is uniquely Moroccan.
Another one of my favorite aspects of Morocco is the blend of modernity and authenticity. In the cities you can spend the entire day in a souk watching all of the activity or simply getting lost in your thoughts. The markets feature traditional artesian goods and beautiful gems at a reasonable price. Get ready to bargain like the locals – it’s a respected tradition here.
As soon as you leave the cities and main roads you are transported back to another period. Donkeys and horses replace tractors and cars. The charming indigenous people who live in these areas are always waving and smiling as you pass through. If the peaceful countryside isn’t your forte, you won’t have to look far.
Mountain climbing, surfing and – of course – biking are prominent sports in the country. I was even able to participate in one of my favorite hobbies – skydiving – on my last visit. During my first jump, the views of the Atlas were so mesmerizing that I nearly forgot to open my parachute. Those looking to keep their feet on the ground can hunt for fossils and dinosaur tracks in Beni Mellal or head to one of Morocco’s vibrant cities.
I can continue on and on, but I really encourage you to discover your Morocco. Come join me and travel to Africa on our next
